The FRÉ community's mission is to harness women's power to create a better world. Because when women are strong, humanity is strong. Strong and free women move their societies and the world forward!

Today, on International Women’s Day, we celebrate all these wonderful women. 

International Women’s Day allows us to reflect on our core mission of strengthening women’s contribution to society and a greener planet.  

 

We plant 10,000 Argan Trees to strengthen the Women's Cooperatives of Morocco 

One of our core actions is to empower Moroccan women who harvest Argan oil in Morocco. With every skincare set sold, FRÉ plants an Argan tree, also known as the "Tree of Life", to help replenish the endangered Argan forest and support women who harvest Argan oil. FRÉ is proud to work in partnership with the High Atlas Foundation (HAF) on this mission.

Together with the HAF, and thanks to you and the FRÉ Community, we plant hundreds of times more Argan than is harvested for use in our products. 

This year, thanks to you, we will finish planting 10,000 Argan trees in Morocco by the end of March!

Last year, we were able to plant 2,000 Argan Trees, and our goal was to reach 10,000 Argan Trees in 2019. We are proud to have reached our desired goal. 

700 women and their families will double their average income thanks to the FRÉ Community

For centuries, Argan harvesting has been a women’s job, utilizing a skill set that has been passed down through the generations. Women would collect the Argan fruit and extract the oil in a labor-intensive process, taking up to 20 hours per liter. Their husbands or brothers would sell the oil in local markets or exchange it for sugar and other goods, which meant that women did not receive any payment for their hard work. In recent years, however, women’s co-operatives have been created to meet the surge in demand.

These co-operatives provide the women with an income, as well as a social experience and improved status. 

The 10,000 Argan Trees we are planting, with the HAF, benefit Argan Women's Cooperatives in the region of Essaouira, thus supporting their business and financial independence. 

In Morocco today, the estimated earned income of women is less than 40% than that of men and over 70% of women are illiterate. On average, 10 mature Argan trees will double the average income of a family of 7 people. The 10,000 Argan trees we are planting will help double the income of 700 Moroccan women, and their families. 

We also, more intensively, support the Izourane Argan Cooperative located in the Essaouira region, with specific actions for the Izourane children's education and women empowerment workshops organized by the HAF.   

 

Supporting and empowering women means that there are strong female role models for the next generation of Moroccan children.
