Don’t Be Tricked this Halloween, Treat Your Skin With Care

Ghosts and jack-o-lanterns adorn windows and doorways. Halloween is coming and plans for Covid-conscious gatherings are underway. There are some sports events scheduled to celebrate the holiday, including the Atlanta and Miami Beach  Halloween Half Marathons,  but the main focus of Halloween revolves around sugary treats. A couple of chocolates can seem harmless, but the indulgences can affect your skin.

How sugar affects your skin

Who doesn’t love a sweet treat now and again? But often you eat more sugar than you realize. Did you know that  a fun size Milky Way contains 10 grams of sugar?  Even worse is that many “health foods” are full of added sugar,  including sports drinks, vitamin waters, protein bars and store-bought granola.  And all this sugar can affect your skin through glycation. In skin, glycation is when free reducing sugars link to collagen and elastin. Connected to sugars, collagen and elastin become weaker and signs of aging develop, such as wrinkles and dull-looking skin. In addition, ingesting large amounts of sugar can exacerbate skin problems such as acne, rosacea and eczema.

Sticking to the  American Heart Association’s recommendation of 25 grams of sugar a day  and having a good skincare routine will help keep your skin healthy and breakout free. So whether you are doing a Halloween 10k-run or walking around the block to trick-or-treat, FRÉ has got a high performance skincare routine to keep your active skin healthy amid the sugary festivities.

Step 1:  PURIFY ME:  hydrating facial cleanser

Step 2:  REVIVE ME:  deep replenishing serum

Step 3:  PROTECT ME:  ultra-light moisturizer with SPF30

Step 4:  DETOX ME:  post-sweat clearing mask

Cleanse your skin with PURIFY ME
A clean face is the first step in caring for your skin. Wet your face and gently massage  PURIFY ME  onto the skin for a minute; then rinse. The jojoba beads in  PURIFY ME  gently exfoliate and cleanse your face, removing excess oils and dead skin cells, while aloe barbadensis leaf juice soothes and nourishes the skin.

Rejuvenate your skin with REVIVE ME
After washing your face, apply a thin layer of  REVIVE ME.  Massage it into the skin until fully absorbed. The argan stem cells in  REVIVE ME  protect dermal stem cells, restoring skin’s youthful elasticity, reducing wrinkles, and increasing skin’s firmness.

Defend your skin with PROTECT ME
Sugar is not the only cause of premature skin aging, sun exposure is also a major factor. In order to protect your skin from dangerous rays,  the American Academy of Dermatology recommends that everyone wear a broad spectrum sunscreen every day if you are going to be in the sun for more than 20 minutes.  And this advice is relevant all year round. Apply a small amount of  PROTECT ME  to your face and neck. Gently work the cream into skin until it is fully absorbed. The butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane in the formula absorbs the sun’s rays, preventing sunburn and premature aging, while the Argania Active Complex© heals skin cells that have suffered from sun damage.

Exfoliate your skin with DETOX ME
A buildup of dead skin cells also can make your face look dull. Exfoliating one to three times a week, depending on your skin type, with  DETOX ME,  will draw out impurities from the skin, unclog pores, and remove dead skin cells. Kaolin clay in  DETOX ME  gently cleanses without causing redness and irritation, and Argania Active Complex© hydrates the skin, improving its firmness and elasticity.

Treating your skin right during Halloween
It is okay to have a couple sweets during the Halloween celebrations. Just remember that the sugar quickly adds up and can affect your skin. To keep your skin looking radiant, maintain your skincare routine with PURIFY ME,  REVIVE ME,  PROTECT ME  and DETOX ME.
