My fitness journey

My family is very fitness orientated. Both my parents are athletes; they were always working out when I was a child. I am the oldest of 4 and we were all very involved in sports growing up. Now, my younger brother and sister are super into powerlifting; my sister was ranked second in the States. I’ve also competed in CrossFit competitions with my Mom.

I have pursued fitness both physically and academically. When I went to college, I studied movement science for 4 years at the University of Michigan. During my studies, I interned at a gym, learned program design, coaching, and more. Later, I got my masters in management to run the business side of things, which I love.

Growing my own brand

When I studied movement science in college, most people studying with me wanted to be physical therapists. That route wasn’t for me. I didn’t want to be involved in the medical side of things, I wanted to lead the preventative side. I was looking for something different. This was before influencers were a thing. A Beachbody coach reached out to me, and I became a Beachbody coach and started IG in 2014. Two years later, I decided to create my own program including my own products and blog.

“FIGR” - Fit Is Getting Real

I started FIGR a year and a half ago. I wanted a name that was all about putting in effort, since there are no shortcuts to success. You really have to follow the principles of success and follow through. Most people want to take the easy way out and have their ideal body immediately. I wanted to create a brand around the idea that you have to push your boundaries to see change. FIGR is all about real effort, real people, real work. This involves body image and things like cellulite or belly fat. I believe that if you are strong and working towards a better self, then this is what really matters, and not a little bit of cellulite. So, I’m all about being real about expectations and not hiding behind filters.

Healthy & delicious eating

On a basic level, if you eat healthy, you feel better. People understand this concept, but they don’t always follow through. I love creating easy snacks that don’t involve much effort or time. I like to say “it’s as simple as eating junk food.” It’s really about creating your menu. Above all, food has to be enjoyable and healthy. But be real—if you are on vacation, you can have that donut. Balance is important and not being too strict is a big part of things. Over time, you can adjust the way you eat. I’m not a diet person, I’ve never done that, but I’m all about making your own menu.

Here are my top 3 recipe recommendations for keeping things delicious and simple:

Maple Sriracha Salmon: Sweet and spicy salmon

Tomcado Salad: Refreshing tomato, cucumber and avocado salad

Omelette Cups: lndividually portioned omelettes that are versatile and delicious

Finding inspiration

As a business owner and coach, I am inspired by other people reaching their goals through my programs. Seeing one person’s success story or hearing someone gain confidence or talk positively about their body inspires me. It’s great to see that you are making a change in people’s lives.

I also am inspired by people’s achievements outside the fitness world. On a daily basis, I love to read success stories and personal development books on mindsets, success principles and how to become the best version of yourself. My top 3 book recommendations are:

  1. The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson
  2. The Magic of Thinking Big by David J. Schwartz
  3. Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis

I’m also motivated to help people beyond their fitness aspirations. My fiance and I are building a company calledLife Leadership. This company helps people to improve their personal development and leadership development skills.

Why I love FRÉ

I’ve never had such great skin until I started using FRÉ. I used to have breakouts and ignore them. But I have not had skin issues since the moment I started using these products. I have introduced lots of people to FRÉ and many have become repeat customers. I love that FRÉ plants trees and gives back to other communities. They are helping the earth and communities, and doing so much more good than other skincare lines. I love the vibe, it’s very real and natural. I have never been into lots of makeup or highly stylized hair, and FRÉ is all about the natural look.

RECOVER ME andPROTECT ME are my favorite products. I wear PROTECT ME before every single workout; my face doesn’t get red when I wear it during those tough cardio sessions. It’s essential! I love the smell and feel of RECOVER ME, and it makes my feel great in the morning.
