  • Pups can run marathons too!

by Talia Blank April 14, 2019

    Pups can run marathons too!

FRÉ Ambassador Megan Greenwich, aka @drmegpt, is running in the Boston Marathon on April 15. She will be running with the Miles for Miracles Team, on behalf of Boston Children’s Hospital.

FRÉ will be donating 5% of all proceeds made on April 15 to Boston Children’s Hospital in support of Megan, to honor those who were injured and in memory of those who lost their lives on this day. When you purchase FRÉ on this day, you will be supporting this worthy cause too!

For more on Megan's story, follow her on Instagram @drmegpt and @randomactsofporter and check out the official charity website link below:

Megan shared her unique and inspirational story with us, explaining how this will be her first marathon, AND her official comeback to running following ACL surgery a couple of years ago.

    Why she's running

Running the Boston Marathon will be a privilege and honor that I hold near and dear to my heart as I’ve volunteered many years in the medical tents and know very intimately the truly tragic nature of the events that unfolded on April 15th of 2013. This year on April 15th, exactly 6 years later, I will set out to tackle each of those 26.2 miles leaving Hopkinton with a hopeful heart and crossing that notorious finish line on Boylston Street in Boston.  This will truly be an accomplishment of a lifetime for this retired college athlete that has never had a true love or passion for running. While some run because they love running, I run because I love helping.

    She's not running alone!

To make this opportunity even more meaningful and in efforts to bring more awareness to our cause, immediately upon finishing the marathon, I will be returning to the starting line to cover the course again; this time pushing my 80lb dog, Porter, in a deluxe apparatus that fans have come to know as the “Puppy Buggy.”  Porter is a Therapy Dog at many establishments throughout New England including Boston Children’s Hospital and serves as a beacon of hope for patients and their families traversing their darkest times and struggles. Porter shows them that underdogs can not only survive, but go on to do great things. Porter will be the first dog to “run” the Boston Marathon and we simply will not let the children down that depend on him finishing this race.

    How you can support

I’ve had great success in my fundraising to date; however, I am now looking to add official sponsors for each and every mile along the course in exchange for mention, advertisement on our Puppy Buggy and our sincerest gratitude.  Donations of $500 or more will be allowed to choose an available mile along to course to sponsor which will be listed on our racing jerseys and also directly on signage on the Puppy Buggy itself for all to see. Porter will also wear his racing jersey with all Mile Sponsors listed for all of his Therapy Dog visits and appearances for the next year.  We are beyond appreciative and thankful for donations of any amount if sponsorship is not something you are able to do at this time. 100% of your donation goes directly to Boston Children’s Hospital without processing or administrative fees.

Thank you kindly for your support and generosity as I set out to conquer a double marathon in honor of the dream and mission that is Boston Children’s Hospital, “Until Every Child Is Well."

We wish Megan and Porter every success in running the Boston Marathon (twice!) and we can't wait to see the pictures and donate towards Boston Children's Hospital.
